Wise Sportsman Supply Company Jim Dandy Lures / c. 1915
I've fallen a little behind on my Antique Fishing "Lure Of The Week" picks, so I'm tripling up this time to catch up. This week's spotlight is on The Wise Sportsman Supply Company of Chicago, Illinois. Their lures are known as the Jim-Dandy Lures, first created by Henry H. Schillinger of Paw Paw, Michigan as hand-carved, hand-painted baits. He received the patent and then sold the rights to the Wise Sportsman's Supply Company of Chicago in 1915. Over the following decade the company produced three distinct lure styles before selling the rights to the William Shakespeare Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Jim Dandy Single Spinner and Double Spinner are especially scarce and hard to come by. All three examples of this company's lures and boxes appear below.
